What you’ll experience
Try snowshoeing for the first time in the forest just 20 minutes from central Oslo. We’ll walk across a frozen lake and through snowy woodland trails – no experience necessary.
We meet at the tiger statue outside Oslo Central Station and take the metro together to Sognsvann, at the edge of Nordmarka forest. The ride takes just 20 minutes, and you’ll step off the train surrounded by snow-covered trees.
I’ll fit you with snowshoes and walking poles and show you how to use them – it’s easier than you might think, and most people get the hang of it within a few minutes.
From there, we head to Sognsvann lake. In winter, the lake freezes solid, and locals come here to ski, walk, ice skate, and even swim in holes cut through the ice. We’ll walk across the frozen lake and into the forest beyond, where the only sounds are our footsteps and the occasional bird.
The tour ends back at Sognsvann station, where we take the metro back to the city centre.
Season: 1 December – 31 March (snow conditions permitting).
